Calligraphy for Beginners - Foundational Hand

Using broad-edged dip pens, make beautiful letters in the Foundational Hand, the ‘mother hand’ of calligraphy and the perfect starting point for beginners. Studying first the lower case then capitals, we will focus on the many practical everyday uses for this satisfying and absorbing skill. Ideal for beginners, but ‘rusty’ calligraphers also welcome.

Calligraphy – Italic Hand, Flourished and Informal

A wonderful array of letter shapes can be achieved with a selection of nibs and pens, some imagination and above all, confidence, which you will gather on this course. We will begin by learning the basic italic hand, then relax our method and try flourished and informal letter shapes. Experimental calligraphy can be big and boisterous or delicate and gentle, and can be stretched or manipulated with exciting results.
