Mixed-Media Sketchbooks – Building a Rich Resource

An experimental sketchbook can be a springboard for future creativity or simply enjoyed in its own right as a journal of observations and techniques. On this course we will create rich and expressive sketchbook pages by generating ideas using mixed media. We will explore the creative potential of line, colour and texture while experimenting with mark-making, layering and collage. These ideas can then be extended by simplifying, abstracting and fragmenting images.

Pewter Work - Tour of Techniques

Pewter is a soft, pliable metal and lovely to work with. This course offers an introduction to the craft of pewterwork, made popular by the Arts and Crafts Movement. You will learn the basic techniques common to all pewterwork projects. Using simple hand-held tools, you will be shown how to give texture and form to flat metal sheet to produce an attractive sampler of techniques. Very little is needed in the way of equipment so this craft can easily be continued at home.

Printing Taster Day

Learn the basics of three printing techniques; silk screen, transfer printing and block printing. At the end of the day you will leave with several successful prints ready for framing or fabric ready to be stitched into a hand-printed interior accessory. The tutor also supplies aprons, t-shirts and tea towels to print on, should you wish. She is a trained teacher and has worked for several years in the fashion and interior business, selling her clothing and giftware to Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Macy’s and numerous local shops.

Oils Made Easy –Painting fruit that looks real and delicious is an excellent starting point for beginner oil painters – even if you eventually want to do other subjects. We’ll look at how to create volume using just a few strokes of the paintbrush. If you are new to oils and feel a bit nervous – don’t worry, as you’ll soon become so absorbed in your painting that you’ll relax and have fun.
