Batik Fabric

Working on beautiful silk, you will use hot wax and vibrant dyes to create your own fabric design using the art of batik. Your motif can be elaborate or simple, pictorial or abstract, in muted shades or full of colour. The finished piece can then be used for clothing, a wall hanging or soft furnishings following the course.

Learn from professional printmaker, Laura Boswell, how to create vibrant multi-coloured linocuts without a printing press. Explore designing, cutting and inking techniques with plenty of opportunity to experiment. Full instructions will be given on how to repeat the process at home, including how to make a registration device. The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with more experience.

Glass Fusing – Five Projects in Glass

This course is an introduction to the skills and techniques involved in glass fusing and slumping. We will make five items during the two days – glass jewellery fused in a microwave and two kiln-fired pieces (a bowl/platter and either coasters, a mirror frame or a wind chime). You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of ideas and glass materials.

Fruit in Pastel - Still Life

Wood Block Engraving

Wood engraving produces prints of great detail and refinement, with a large tonal range, unlike the more common method of creating woodcuts. This two-day course will introduce beginners to all the basic tools and techniques of wood engraving. Reference books, a set of tools for each student, end-grain practice blocks, a block of lemonwood, Japanese paper, roller and ink will be provided. Printing will be by hand burnishing; a method that can be easily replicated at home.
